Handlebar Controls
To begin with, let’s make sure your scooter is on its center stand. Start safe and find a lot clear of obstacles so you can make significant turns.
Modern scooter controls are simple. You have a hand twist throttle grip on the right and two hand brake levers. One on
Handlebar Placement
One on the right and one on the left handlebar. So, all the controls are on the bars leaving your feet free for balance and it stops.
You must know how to use the controls and be comfortable with them before you start riding.
How to Start
Let’s get started to make the scooter move forward; you must turn the throttle grip towards you slowly in a way to slow down to stop the scooter you squeeze the two hand levers. The right lever is the front brake and has the greatest stopping power. The left-hand lever controls the rear brake. Both brakes should be used for stopping.
Clutch
Most scooters have an automatic clutch. Just twist the throttle slowly to increase the engine speed and the scooter will move forward. To stop you turn the throttle grip away from you and squeeze the two brake levers.
The throttle provides most of the control for riding. Practice twisting it over and over until you know unconsciously that turning it towards you increases speed and turning it away slows you down. When you slow the engine down the automatic will disengage and you can stop. only the grip has to be moved to go forward or stop.
How fast the scooter moves depends on how rapidly you twist the grip. Start with a slow twist and hold it at a steady speed.
If you move forward too quickly just back off the throttle grip.
Brakes
The brakes allow you to stop in an emergency or to slow down at any time. Since your right or front brake lever has the greatest stopping power it should be squeezed first then the rear brake lever on the left side.
You must be able to use the front brake to stop quickly and safely.
To begin with, you will be going slow. in an easy squeeze will allow you to make a gentle stop. You must practice them too. You can drive at highway speeds and stop quickly.
How to Stop Quickly
To stop quickly you must squeeze harder. You begin to embrace in a controlled manner and then apply more pressure. The more pressure the faster you will stop.
You steer the scooter by turning left or right and also how you balance.
How to Turn
At slow speed, you turn the bars to the right to turn right and left to go left. As you make tighter turns you will also lean into the turn.
At a speed over 20 miles per hour, there is a gyroscopic effect caused by the wheels turning quickly. This effect makes it easier to balance as the speed increases. You will find that above the speed a very tiny amount of handlebar movement will steer the scooter.
Riding is such a natural event that you will make the transition easier.
Your scooter has other controls like light switches and turn signals but will just focus on learning how to ride a scooter. See your manual for more details.
To start your scooter there is a run-off switch on the right handlebar of your scooter.
Put the switch in the run position then turn on the ignition switch and squeeze the left brake lever. The scooter will not start unless the brake is applied. Now push the start button on the lower right side of the handlebar grip. After a moment or two, the engine should start.
Release the start button. Your scooter probably has an automatic choke so while idle fast until it’s warm and then slow down. If you twist the throttle gently it will increase the engine speed.
Remember if you increase the engine speed, the scooter will move forward.
Practice increasing the speed slightly and then backing off. This will give you an idea of how you control the scooter's speed.
Your First Ride
Now for your first ride take the scooter off the stand. Make sure the side stand is up. Place both feet on the ground and start the engine.
Now with your left hand resting lightly on the brake lever, you twist the throttle back slightly and the scooter will move forward. Continue to push the throttle and you’re moving at a steady speed. Then pick your feet up and place them on the footboard.
Practice makes perfect. Practice for at least an hour or more before attempting anything on the road. Continue to practice in your empty lot until you feel confident in your ability to start, stop and turn well.
Riding is very easy braking may save your life and needs to be practiced over and over until you can stop quickly and keep it under control.
When you ride you must look where you intend to go. You don’t look at the controls or your feet, you look down the road. This is how you maintain balance and ensure that your way is clear.
If you are going around a corner look around the corner. Do not look at the Curb. If there is a car parked beside the street or a large rock. Avoid staring at the obstacle, instead, look at the clear portion of the road ahead.
You will go where you always look. Now that you are having fun keep practicing until you’re in complete control.
Conclusion
Most mishaps occur within the first hour of use because people enter traffic before they have control. Practice and ride safely. Enjoy your new scooter.
